welcome to the dark side of the moon

last stretch left!

but it's quite nice to spend time working on things i like (as compared to trying to study for GP, for example).

so kill me. i'm feeling irrationally optimistic today. :D

harry potter on thursday. i shouldn't have lent off my book, i want to reread it because the film conveniently left out so many things i'm surprised people can keep up. or maybe they don't.
and also, my first time with the wii. (yes, the kinect, i know, but we're a console-deprived family here.)

more: dawn treader movie. apparently the trailer looks good.
i like dawn treader the best out of the narnia series (so kill me).
partly because it's got the sea in it.

wouldn't it be cool to work on the ocean?

speaking of which, listen to this!
favourite electone piece ever.
just listen. don't have to watch.

(i chose this one because the stagea still sounds better. and she plays like my teachers.)

i want to watch confessions.
the radio was introducing it the other day and i thought it was some romance flick.

i've also given up on college in japan. because they need another bloody health examination!!
noooo there goes my free trip to osaka.
no matter! i'll earn it back by working!!!

sitex was great! no one seemed to enjoy it but me.

also, met yumi AND natsu (who are in the same commercial high school. wth no one told me).
i kind of gatecrashed their briefing at the hotel, heheh.
it's nice to know we can still talk normally.
old friends are lovely to have.

--

upcoming: JLPT (this is a real challenge), taiko workshop, karaoke, prom, taiwan trip.
what, you mean As aren't over yet?

:D

^^

old songs feel like a friend you walk home with in the evenings (when the sunlight is golden and the air is warm).

lyrics.
SURRENDER
lostage

(because it took me ages to decipher what they were singing about, and that was when there were no lyrics around.)

無し

have you ever wondered what the music of the future will sound like?

will the japanese music industry be a lame trend of the past?
will the pop singers today be mumbling old geezers who can't be understood?
will it be techno? crazy, bleary rock? new genres with names that come from space? people naming their own music?
maybe the music then won't have words. nor melodies.

new instruments!

what if we go into an era where people are too afraid of damaging their ears? like what makeup with lead is to us. beautification/ entertainment but lethal.

that'd be horrible.

no matter what, i'd like to stay on top of it all. it's always interesting to see how far you can go.

ALBUM'S OUT, THE OLD AJIKAN'S BACK AND IT'S THE START OF GOOD DAYS. :D

btw, check out the site they released with their album.
it needs flash, takes bloody long to load and is completely in japanese, but it's an interesting concept and allows you to show off your cultured music tastes to fourteen thousand (and growing) other people who have equally cultured music tastes.

heh.

new PV

suits! *gasp*

i wonder where they got their insipration for the animal heads from? hmm ...
also, i wonder how they're going to do this live. (maybe they'll get real brass players! :D)

the most accessible piece since the surf bungaku kamakura era! recommended.

just 3 days and we're all sinking back into our old lifestyles - mugging, sleeping, stoning, staying under shelter.

there's no jap on friday, which means i can finally (!) not worry about the time in H3!
since jap screwed my schedules i think i've learnt to treasure lessons more.

now's release season!

ajikan's new single gets a movie named after it!
(okay, it's probably named after the movie SORANIN, or they were named together, whatever, but i prefer to see it the other way round. :D)

NEW SINGLE SOUNDS PROMISING!

anyway! i shall watch ソラニン because:
1. ajikan's new song 「ソラニン」 is used throughout the whole show and is kind of important to the plot (there's even this part with the lyrics shown omg),
2. the ED is ムスタング, remixed :D,
3. the lead guy is the guy they got to star in the pv of 新世紀のラブソング,
4. it's about bands and music and stuff.

so yes!
a part of my brain is screaming hysterically right now.

finishing kirino natsuo's OUT has left me thoroughly depressed.

im rotting at home.

getting spammed by kpop.

don't say i never tried, i really don't like it.

how come there're so little bands in the chinese music industry? and in the korean music industry? (or if there are, they don't make it big.)
or maybe it's just that i haven't been looking out for them ...

pity.

and i take back whatever i said about 新世紀のラブソング because it's still amazing and i'm hopelessly addicted.

yay for ajikan and the way gocchi-san sings. :D

my computer is going through menopause. being moody. cranky.

ASIAN KUNG-FU GENERATION

ajikan's new single, after over a year.
(the title literally means "new century love song".)

tracklist:

... it's weird.
it's like nothing ajikan's ever done before.

in shinseiki no love song, ajikan grows out of the surf bungaku happy energetic feel to emerge with a mellower sound, a bit like in aru machi no gunjou.
what puts me off is the melody. firstly, the pseudo-rapping. it worked in night diving (world world world), but not this time. it's awkward and twisted and weird, not rhythmic enough to be proper rapping yet not holding enough of a tune to be singing.
and then all the singing parts don't help much, because they're mostly made up of notes alternating between a semitone, with sudden twists. i was waiting for the chorus that would save the rapping, but it didn't happen. it's another of ajikan's weird compositions that don't really work out.

in the end, what saves the day is the drumming (ichiji! :D) and the sheer intensity of the lyrics.
the lyrics are amazing.
they're deep in a blunt and forthright way and the intensity only comes out through the melody, which i can't comprehend how. but it does. they're especially powerful in the chorus.

i must explain.
(the translations are not mine.)
this is from the second verse:
夕方のニュースで何処かの誰かが亡くなって (on the evening news, someone died somewhere)
涙ぐむキャスター それでまた明日 (the caster was moved to tears, and so tomorrow)
then in the fourth:
朝方のニュースでビルに飛行機が突っ込んで (on the morning news, a plane hit a building)
目を伏せるキャスター そんな日もあった (the caster covered his eyes, there were days like that too)

i love these two lines and the way they match, and how they mean what they mean, and the way they sound in the song despite the bad rapping.

and this line:
さようなら旧石器 (goodbye old century is the translation, but i don't think it means that and i don't know what it means. but it sounds good.)
and this line:
(breathe air, eat life / can you say you're not just a monkey that excretes (them out)?)

they're really interesting.

and the most incredulous thing about this song is that it gets stuck in your head in no time at all. objectively bad but subjectively addictive.
i keep singing it even though it sounds awful without the guitars!
well, that's the thing about ajikan's stuff.

the other thing that saved the song from getting skipped by me is the pv. despite all the bad cgi.
(it reminded me of kuuchuu buranko, what with the psychiatrist and all.)
it's a refreshing change from all their funny spastic pvs lately.
it's got strong intensity and a storyline and with the lyrics there's a thought-provoking message that comes through the song. it's actually moving.

(the first 10 seconds are <3! ken-saaaaaaaaaan~)

on to shiro ni somero.
... which is a tad too happy for my liking.
it starts off well, with super bright-and-cheerful guitars, which was a relief at first after shinseiki no love song. and it's not a bad song.
it's just not very impactful. the chorus is awkward and tiring to listen to.
don't really like.

what happened to genius composing! T.T
it seems like ajikan's moving on to a new, more mature sound and they haven't grasped and perfected it yet. and also that they're trying to get more meaningful messages across but they haven't found the right notes that connect immediately.
the music comes first so even with the lyrics, it's not enough to fill the one-year-plus gap.
well, the single sort of works out after a while. it is very ajikan-like in the end.
but i'm still waiting for that really good song that i will like instinctively, like the singles from the world world world era.
for now, listen to it with the lyrics and don't listen to it if you aren't prepared to be super forgiving and tolerating towards the music.

(and i tried very hard not to be biased throughout this review. P:)

(watch the pv if you're in the mood for unconventional stuff~)

i! will! wait! for the next single/ album! and i hope i get used to the new style then!

4th on oricon charts! :D

there's racial discrimination, gender discrimination, intelligence discrimination ...

... and then there's subject discrimiation.
or you can call it marginalization of the minority.

i don't trust the school to solve my problems for me anymore.

i'll find my own way around in this big, overwhelming, spinning mess.

...

i need time off from all the noise and the computer to zen.

--

on a side note.

suzuken has a frikkin album now. O.O

first impression: pretty normal stuff (with previous singles), but slightly disconcerting. it's liked being constantly poked while trying to sleep or understand something. er. that's the kind of feeling i got.
it also has some cool concept thing going on (like "BIRTH" and "Re:BIRTH", you know? "becoming soon" and "becoming"?), but i'll leave that till i can confirm it somewhere.
above all, it never fails to be cheerful.

i am talking about this like a normal album. *mind spins*

*spins some more*

THIS IS SO WEIRD. :D

edit:

it's that time of the year again.

new stuff coming out/ already out! ^^ (i love this season's OPs and EDs~)

UVERworld (28 oct)
From Dusk Till Dawn - abingdon boys school (?) (this is the kind of stuff from abs i've been waiting forrrrrr!)
Aqua Timez (already out)
It's All Too Much/ Never Say Die - YUI (already out)
Ghost†Heart - LM.C (4 nov)

and i highly recommend CLONE by ストレーテナー [straightener].

i don't think wikipedia is supposed to do this:

it doesn't link to a player, btw. XD

the graphics are godly! unbelievable. must watch for yourself. cannot describe. it's just DAMN SHUANG. *incoherent screaming*

add on the suit:

this is heaven. the picture sizes don't do it justice. (but i think you can click :D)

i really hope more trailers and stuff come out soon.

second.

been watching nano-mugen festival 2009 for the past 2 days. and just want to say these things.

the lead singer of spitz is cute! (although i think he's past 45 already.)

O.o that sounded quite weird, there ...

unicorn is also another great find, they're really funny and natural on stage.
so is ben folds, who's a genius with the piano. i wonder how the pianos take his banging. and it's really banging, no kidding.
straightener played a new song i like.
and it was nice to see sakanaction. (but the lead got no support XD)

more importantly, ajikan has improved again! *happy* all the old songs i didn't really like because of the screaming were beautifully done. and they're all back to normal.

MOST importantly,

T.T (they're not selling it anymore, btw.)

it's not that impossible to go nano-mugen fes, because 1) it happens bi-anually and 2) it's actualy affordable! not like crazy tickets which cost more than hundred bucks. plus you get to see, what, more than 10 bands?

want want want. *sparkle*

just amazed at how they can repeat their lyrics so many times and so slowly and still pull it off.

(it was written to be haiku-like. i'll intro the song another day, maybe.)

(and just showing off the new blockquote. ^^)

no holiday's complete without crashing someone's house. (it was quite unintended this time.)
even though i did zilch yesterday in terms of working towards striking things of the study list, i'm lagging behind my self-torturous schedule by many distasteful things. (don't feel like doing = skip, hence the current situation.)

found out how to not make my mp3 blast music even at volume 1.
(for those who don't know, sonicgear's earphones play your tracks damn loud.)
i <3 samsung because it has an equaliser which solves all the problems. just stuff all the settings to minimum and voila! i'm back to the volume i used to have.
not sure whether i should be happy or sad, because the past 6 months blasting music have been GLORIOUS. now i can't hear anything except the singing. /: and the equaliser bars have been edging back up.
however, the damage done ... probably shortened my hearing lifespan by a few years.
T.T
i feel kind of stupid.
but when my mp3 dies (it's gonna happen soon), i'll get samsung. or any other player that has an equaliser. (ha, ipod touch! i think the bass booster is fei. i can adjust how whiny i want my singers to be. :D)
oh, and gazillions of storage space, please.
the joy of being OCD about your music!

somehow i can't do work today.
it's hot, my hair is screwed (really.) and it keeps falling all over the place, i'm stuck in differentiation and integration for revision booklet AND revision lecture AND MPTP tuts. really, really painful.
brain doesn't function properly at night, thus i'm here.

i like this line from マダラ蝶:
変わる事の無いものに 美しさなんて見出せない
it doesn't really make sense (unchanging things can be beautiful too) but it sounds nice.

projects i want to embark on after promos:
1. make own stereograms. not the complicated kind, the 3D kind. theoretically they should be doable.
2. make new header. some ideas swimming around.
3. make list of places that i must want to go when in japan. e.g. akiba and the life-sized gundam.
4. learn all the lyrics i wanted to learn.

projects i do not want to embark on after promos:
1. PW.
