voices in flight 2010

choir concert yesterday.

songs i liked: the standard fare (burung, lullaby, kalinda(!), orpheus, jap game, mambo) as well as tsubasa, itsuki no komori uta, SATB version of 催咚催, and mate saule.
mate saule was beautiful! haunting.
so was lullaby, but listening to it from so far away took away some of the intensity i've heard before.
(sorry jane i didn't record! ><)

and of course, xulie's solo speaking part in i-dunno-what-dialect in 猜调!
i must congratulate him for managing to look cool on stage (i was sitting very very far at the top, though. :D)
i must also congratulate the guys for sounding so good! (there were seniors, i know, but there weren't any bad sounds with the good sound as far as i could tell.)
couldn't really see the girls, i could only tell them apart by their figure.

what was kind of weird was watching some of my seniors perform on stage with the current batch and the junior batch, while sitting behind some of my other seniors (who went and dyed their hair and everything already.)

did something long overdue for a good friend, which felt nice.

hugged a lot of people, gave stuff, and felt a bit extra, because everyone had their own bunch of supporters and were rushing around all over the place.

met seniors i truly, truly respect.

yes, i enjoyed myself.
i decided not to be sad.
felt a bit wistful, but it made the songs all the more beautiful.

辛苦你们了!

THANK YOU wenqi and huimin for going with me (even though your classes have no choir people) and tolerating my running around and finding people! <3333 you guys.

i miss choir very, very, very much.

JIAYOU for france and czech! i'll be waiting for the good news!

huat ah!

so. cny's over.

what have i done?
attained a stack of angpow. (merely symbolic in nature, because my parents suffer losses of a similar magnitude.)
had a reunion with my relatives and cousins. (really? i'll ask myself that again. really?)
wore havoc clothes. (it was fun looking at my relatives' reactions.)
did homework. (more like, used it as an excuse.)

cny was 3 days of being superficial and pretending to be concerned about each other while looking at the adults stabbing each other in the back.
only the kids were spared.

and i spent a large part of it challenging traditions (like refusing to buy new shoes) and being cynical (do you believe what you're praying to, anyway?).

that was harsh.
but hey, the 2nd day was fun. (my mum's side is alright. my cousins are all guys. how political can you get around guys? first thing they say after 恭喜发财 is "开table 开table! who wants to play 21点!")
and i did get around to packing my room.
and it was a sorely-needed break.

i got these a lot:
1. wts you're 18 already?!! i thought you were, like, still in secondary school!
2. oh this year A levels? aiya easy for you lah. (DIE, I SAY)
3. so what are you gonna do after As?
(me: i don't know ...)
doctor is it? doctor is it?
(me: ...)
4. wah, japanese ah! (erm, my leggings, but NVM.)

my sis and i were wondering what kind of cnys we would have when we get married and all.
i'd probably dao a lot of people.
we'd just camp out at one of our houses and play mahjong, or something.

still, i'm kind of glad to be back in school, away from the stifling atmosphere.
(so flame me.)

there's more coming on saturday save meeeeeeeeee ...

whew

third day at school and i'm spent!~

open house was unexpectedly fun. :D
even with the ginormous ratio of school people : outsiders.
i hope i didn't say anything i'm not supposed to say to the juniors ...

--

anyway, my buddy says she might come to singapore!
sounds fun!
even though it's a baaaad time, march.

stuck on lostage. they do not get enough love, seriously. and the drummer just quit nooooooooo. O.O

くっせぇー

went to do a little star-gazing yesterday.

smokers who don't give a damn about people standing around them and inhaling their second-hand smoke should all DIE IN HELL.

i'm sorry. but then again, i'm not.

cip@SGH

cip is over!
well, there's still installation. but we tied everything up nicely yesterday.

for those who don't know what this is about:
basically we get people to paint pebbles for us.
then we lacquer them and install them on stools in one of the sgh gardens.
(this is what i have been telling the inquisitive public for about 3 weeks.)

anyway, it was all very fun because of the nature of the work itself.
and the people who came, of course.
there were a lot of funny moments. :D

kudos to xy for running the whole show! (^w^)/

photos :D

i spammed the contrast knob on some of them, so don't stare too long.

says all.
especially the "FREE!".

done by xy. :D
an excellent example of what you can do with pebbles!
of course, this is not at all an accurate representation of the designs we have collected.

i love this.

this is paint.
what more can i say?
acrylic paint is a wonderful invention.

... ok, maybe: "this is a ball rolled out of dried/semi-wet paint with added toppings."
or: "this is a cow's calling in life."
...
couldn't tell, right?
too bad it didn't get to be watermelon-sized.

and hippo graces our event!

so i painted stones, had loads of fun, got my hours, whiled my holiday away.

come SGH in january to look at the stones! there are some really good ones.
and if you have the money please buy them too. :D

--

and i finished koizora.

i've been reading it on the train for the past 3 weeks.

well, the back gets slightly better, but it's still a trashy romance novel all the same. there's nothing in it i haven't seen from whatever experience i have with this genre.
it's like a really long fanfic just good enough to get published.
besides, i don't like the main guy. i like 優 and his kansai-ben better P:
i don't like the protagonist/writer too.

oh well. i learnt a lot of things.
like a bit of kansai-ben.
and slang.
and gangsta-language.
who knows? they might come in useful someday.

back to the hell-hole called homework.

neil gaiman!

... was UNREAL.
unexpected.

and AMAZING.

(thanks gecko! :DDDD for bestowing this once-in-a-lifetime chance upon me XD)

even though i can't call myself a true fan (i haven't read a lot of his stuff and don't own anything that is signable >< not like gecko ... after yesterday, and i'm also FAIL because I FORGOT TO BRING THE CAMERA T.T), neil gaiman is so cool!
everything he says comes out with style and is genuinely funny. and worthy to be put in a book or quoted and framed.

(NEIL GAIMAN at the signing session. sorry about the picture quality, i'm waiting for better photos.)

it felt really weird and surreal to sit there and see him, and think about his books. (somewhere in the recesses of my brain i was going nuts and going "is this really neil gaiman! it's really neil gaiman! omfgomfgomfgomfg!" and such.)

maybe it was surreal because it was so up close and ... down-to-earth and everything. (remember may'n? =.=)
he was just there and there were no mobs and at the signing his girlfriend was wandering around unharassed. so it was a very new experience to just run round the back to get a photo.
it was inspirational, though i don't exactly know how. but i enjoyed every single minute in vt!
(and i liked the crowd, it was a very civilised crowd.)

the signing queue was SO LONG (and misshalle was in it (!)) so i kind of gave up. 900 people! 2 hours for every 200! and i'd feel bad because people were toting their good omens and sandman around. but AHHH THE CHANCE SLIPPED THROUGH MY FINGERS TODAY! T.T

anyway this has made me determined to hunt down every single neil gaiman book in the libraries. (it's quite difficult, i've been trying for a long time.)

... everything i've said above does not do today justice.

i hope he comes back to singapore! and i hope such things happen more often. writers are such great people.

--

by the way gecko got this for me. (and alot of class people too.) go see her post with the bit about the Poetry Proletariat Factory. this was from the word "jelly".

i like it a lot. the theme is interesting.
well, i actually understand it, for one. after experience with a lot of confusing and abstract poems in school.
i like poems with interesting spacing, for another. (haha i'm not a very literary person.)

poems should be used to delight and inspire, not to torture kids in school. /: that's how people lose interest in poems in the first place.

全巻までのあらすじ

national day celebrations were really lame.

maybe they're saving money for MAF.

hbp with my sis!

sectumsempra!

well, it was alright.

the guys are all so ugly now. /: malfoy looks half dead. (but he's supposed to.) and not enough emotion!

dumbledore was great! especially the part in the cave where he unleashed fire on the inferi! it made me go hoo yeah and grin stupidly in my seat. it's one of the rare scenes that actually lived up to my imagination. which is difficult because it very very seldom happens.
snape was great too but that's just because i have a new bias.
OH how could i forget SLUGHORN WAS EPIC! never really liked him but he's really good here.

all the *romance* stuff were done weirdly. totally unlike the original.

the graphics have gotten better, though, notably at the beginning. and tom riddle ... the actor seems to have changed! ...

after the movie i went home and immediately read my favourite parts of the book for 2 hours.

sigh there was a beng and his girlfriend sitting behind us.
his phone rang twice and being a beng, he just daoed it.
and after that it kept vibrating and he daoed it.
plus his girlfriend kept whining.
STUPID.
RESPECT THE WORK OF ART or DON'T WATCH!
=.=
i totally wanted to turn around and throw his phone at him.

yay people like the rainbow laces. :D when i first bought the shoes i thought they were very AA, though.

tapestry and the stupid school

went to takashimaya to watch tapestry just now.

hm, seeing qr and yiran dance was quite cool. and all the 401 people, of course. (but i've seen them dance before.)
and my spot was quite bad, seeing their backs most of the time.
haha my mum was very interested in the guys. XD especially the bboys.

(the band before them wasn't half bad, because the guitars drowned out the whiny lead's voice.)
--

what is with the school and all schools and MOE in general? (apparently it's the same in my sis' school too.) do they sincerely think it will do us good by hushing things up?
rumours fly, especially when a class gets a whole floor to themselves and get free macs delivered to their doorstep. (helping my sis here)
what is their problem lah.
H1N1 cases in school, and first death in singapore.
i pity the j2s.

see la! told you not extending holidays was a bad idea.

oops, i forgot the title. but i doubt anyone saw.

what happened on csm day

milo vans ftw!
i don't really remember them for the past 4 years ...
csm was just sianing around and walking around, and laughing at the fac comm. (and zixin's Big Moment, haha)
then 401 had an impromptu gathering where we talked about all the 401 topics like school and grades. :D then running around looking for teachers. which was really nice.
i miss 401!
teachers' race where ny totally owned hc and we all went to be traitors and cheered for ny.

went to the src lab after that with huimin and jiayi, which was NICE and roomy and chock full of shiny new equipment (and crytals at that point of time). seems like someone up there doesn't want me to do research.

then we did what we always do and went off to orchard kino to get xy's long overdue present, and lose ourselves in books and mags and laughing at more people on mag covers. and fawning over all the stuff that's classified under "don't really need but really really really wannnnt". we went to mess up the stationery section this time as well. i'll go look for the photos.
popular totally sucks (except for the pricing).

after which we went to the national library to do pw (XD) and ended up doing a stupid thing. stupid thing = not realizing there's a photocopying room in lee kong chian reference library and copying chapters of a book with pencil and paper. but nevermind, i've gotten over it already.

borrowed Spiral, prequel to Loop by Suzuki Koji, (okay, so i like flipping jap people's names back). finished it feeling freaked out. and wanting to read Loop again. (which i did, in school)
tsk, disguising horror in all that bio jargon.
but it was good, and i'm left craving for books right now. >< (Loop was more mind-blowing, though)
i think Ring (the first book) is full-blown horror ...

Loop sparked off a few people's interest already!

--

edit: GAHHHHHHH my earphones don't work on the computer (it's the computer's problem) how to watch stuff! UVERworld vids! gahhhhhhh!

--

edit 2: suzuki koji was born in hamamatsu! :D

--

EDIT 3: WTS the horror film Ring (with sadako climbing out of the tv and everything) is really adapted from Ring written by this guy! OOOOO:
OH. MY. GOD.

how did it ever become something like Loop.
how did i ever end up reading his books.
now i want to read the book and watch the movie le lahhhhhhhh.

huangcheng yesterday! (spent 3 bucks on taxi fare D; and running all around raffles mrt)

anyway the props were really nice! especially the hdb flats. whoever did those, they were amazing.

didn't really get the storylines for the last 2 plays. i like the first, how the lights were done at the front! :D and all the bangbangbang going on, and there was some kind of conclusion. and missed quite a lot of lines because everyone kept laughing and there were only 2 hanging mikes or something, so the lines kenna drowned out.

the programme booklet (or rather, programme cards) was interesting!

i think there were some minor screwups, but due to that we managed to see insane and gecko ban1 props :D. and saw jane during xie3mu3, but didn't see yuanhan anywhere. you know, kenny bought lightsticks and we wanted to wave it at you all but the councillors didn't let! D: haha.

now i finally understand more about everything. (it's not bits and pieces anymore!)

OMG i am amazed by someone's IMBANESS! :D so amazing it's scary!

恭喜发财!

warning: tons of pictures!

春到河畔2009

pictures say the lot. ^^

we parked near the singapore flyer, which explains all these close-ups. and you can actually see it move! (as compared to viewing it from kilometres away)

insisted on climbing all the way up the audience seats at the floating platform, where the view is very nice. :D but my photography sucks, so.

the actual exhibits were on the floating platform. it's cool! it has rubber floors! and there were a lot of people, of course.

yes this is super cool! just like harry potter had giant chess, 春到河畔 had giant chess too! :D and they let you walk through the portion that is supposed to be 楚河汉界.

luck for monkeys this year: you will irritate the hell out of your teachers this year. XD

overall, wasn't too bad. :D

初二

today was really really crazy.
partly because i have cousins who are 7 and 10 and 13 and do the craziest things. (and not in a good way, too)
spent half my day babysitting restraining the one aged 7.
they're my favourite cousins. *shrugs*

we went to my aunt's place to celebrate.
my uncle who cooks like a 5-star hotel chef cooked. and it's the first time i'm eating it. um, long story behind it all.
so the food was really good. *o*
we walked round the long dinner table picking stuff we like to eat. XD

all my elder cousins brought their girlfriends, haha.

we did crazy and unethical and only-tolerable-if-kids-do-it things like play with the lifts.
the lifts are super cool, by the way.
because all the buttons are touch-sensitive, my cousin swiped his hand over the panel and selected all the floors.
so what happened was we had to clear them one by one, i.e. stop at every floor.
i always feel that my reasoning and logical thinking degrade a few years back when i'm with them.
i think we pissed off a few neighbours.

and like every year, the place becomes a gambling den in the afternoon.
we played daidi! and mahjong!

my nephew. <3
i didn't type that wrongly.

you can see super-big and super-rich acs barker from the lift!

view from the balcony at my aunt's house. you can see 1/4 of the singapore flyer right at the back.

my 7 year old cousin. she is not what she looks, okay. (and yes, in a nonya outfit.) also, my nephew is her nephew, but they play together like they're in kindergarten together.
she kept wrenching my necklace from my neck and hitting my sister's spectacles.
i think she terrorizes all her teachers and friends at school. :D
okay, i'm not supposed to smile at that.

says all.

it's 2 of my relatives' birthday today!

omg i want to go to insane's house tomorrow but cannot! ><
because of ponyo.
zannen.

this is turning out to be the slackest cny ever because i have no homework (maths doesn't count!) and my parents are a bit lazy to go visiting.
which is why i'm so free and posting stuff.

今、ちょっと気持ち悪い。><

happy 牛 year!

that didn't look half bad, did it.

除夕+初一

this year's not so bad, really. :D

yesterday there was 团圆饭 steamboat plus 捞鱼生 at my ahma's house.
er, at least my cousins and i are on speaking terms. (i remember some years back where we dao-ed each other)
so it was quite fun la.
hci's not as well known as nanyang. and yes, i'm in jc already ... (if i'm not wrong i'm the first one in my generation for my dad's side to go to jc. so everyone keeps thinking i'm in poly.)
last night i was in my room sewing. because when chinese new year starts we cannot use needles and etc.

today was quite sian.
because we started 拜-ing 年 very early.
usually for my dad's side, all my uncles will meet at my ahma's house first.
then we will go to my aunt's/ahma's sister's/uncle's house together to 拜年. (pardon the bad english)
this year, my dad decided not to wait for all the other people because they were late. so at all the houses it was just our family.
it's not a bad thing, because when a lot of people are around you get compared to people a lot.
but it was ... quiet. and there's not much 气氛 this year.
reached home super early because my parents wanted to sleep. =.=
and i wore my thigh-high socks and everyone thought they were leggings! :D

looking forward to tomorrow! because i like my mum's side's cousins!

i might be going to 春到河畔 later!

--

i'm happy happy happy with my layout~
i'll leave it to you guys to figure out the icon thing in the sidebar! :DDD

supercalifragilisticexpialidocioushappycny!☆

high and crazy day!

first, cny celebrations.
which were quite lame (i missed half of it anyway.)
council really put in a lot of effort to do the thing, though.
do not ever wear the 90th tee with jeans as it is damn ... gross.
also, as we love school too much, half the class turned up in full school uniform with school badge included.
ate nuggets and nachos with HOT CHEESE (thanks, siyuan!) and got coerced into eating jelly. right.
(我欠钱欠过年:P)
then we lao yu sheng and made a mess out of the whole school! (and many salmons were sacrificed in the process)
the last event was mass dance which we all promptly escaped from. and we went back to ny to look for teachers.
ms tan wasn't there so we left a note.
and i finally saw ms olivia chee's desk properly! which has TONS OF GUNPLA IN A ROW AND MANY MANY POSTERS. like saiyuki. XD and a mini ichigo figurine.
shouldn't have walked past so fast last time. but then at that time i didn't watch gundam yet.
ms lye still told me the name of the teacher is a "well-kept secret". tsk.

then we missed one 961. and went to causeway with xy to go look for her bag. (insane's sis came)
and we did a lot of crazy things at the shopping centre. and took photos in public that you all should never ever take in public.
after i shop the pics i will put here!

after xy bought her bag ($21) we went to the library AND I FOUND FOOL MOON AND DEAD BEAT! insane borrowed 3 harry dresden books, ha. so now i have these two plus proven guilty to last me over new year's eve when i go and park myself at my ahma's house.
and the library extended the 8-book loan thing! yay.
(and you can't take pictures in the library)
neoprints didn't happen. anyway i had no money. came to school with less than $1 total in both my wallets.

slept on the train. really.

WE FORMULATED A LOT OF CRAZY THEORIES AND STUFF TODAY.

1. the pronoun for innovator amoebas is now "hit". as in, "ribbons and hit's gay green hair." originated from a mix of his, her and it. gecko's wonderful idea.
2. gecko's brain is officially screwed. and it's contagious.
3. ship anew and halleujah because god says so!
4. causeway ≠ cosplay, boys and girls.
5. mister bushido's ahead - 's = mister bushido ahead (do want)
and many more.

(OH MY GOD I WENT HOME JUST NOW AND THE T-SHIRT SHOP NEAR MY BUS IS SELLING DEATHNOTE T-SHIRTS. AT 3 FOR $20. BUT THE CUT SUCKS. I WANT THEM TO PRINT IT ON BIG BAGGY T-SHIRTS. ToT)

and the dragonball movie sucks, omg.

JMAF 2008

japanese media arts festival @ singapore art museum.

went on friday with gecko and insane on a sudden whim, since it was the last possible day to go without having to pay $1.50 to get in.

it was ... interesting.

for those who haven't even seen the ad on tv, go here.

we ended up viewing the exhibits in a screwed-up order, jumping from zone to zone (and skipping the exhibits that were too cheem).
some of them are super fun/cool, especially the interactive and high-tech ones! i've never played with high-tech art before.
there was also one on the first gundam series, and there were shelves of manga (including FMA) which no one seemed to dare to touch. XD
also, PSPs and Wiis with different games!
in the end, though, we spent most of the time watching the animation short clips.

listed below are the stuff we watched!
"49" by Iwano Ichiro
"Birthday" by Hanzaki Toshiaki
"BLOCKMAN" by Murrakoshi Youhei
"BONEHEADS" by Chida Hiroshi
"Burning Safari" by Team Burning Safari, Gobelins
"HOW TO COOK BREAKFAST?" by Yamazaki Ryoko
"LOST UTOPIA" by Mizue Mirai
"Love Rollercoaster" by Horie Hiromasa - we left to go see the other exhibits when this started and when we returned, this was playing. miraculously, we returned after the whole sequence of videos looped once! :D
"THE CLOCKWORK CITY" by Kato Ryu
"Magnetic UFO" by Nishimi Shojiro
"A Tale of Carefree King" by Misumi Yoshiko

the video system shut down in the middle of "A Tale of Carefree King" at 9.00pm sharp. D: then the guard started to shoo people out. we spent 2 hours there but i think it's possible to play with the exhibits all day! especially with all the consoles and manga around.

i really like BLOCKMAN, by this ungoogleable Murakoshi Youhei. it's so simple and so amazing.

it's about a cube planet in the middle of space (seen through a telescope) made of small cubes and the cubes come together to make cute shapes that move/fly/roll/wriggle around on the cube. but i like the back where they all burst into small cubes and drift away. like ... very pretty apocalypse.
also "THE CLOCKWORK CITY" took up 25 minutes of our precious time, but i remember that the music sounded a bit like ajikan's. (like the start of 或る街の群青 on a 25-minute loop.) :D
most of them are cute! i want to see all of them!!!
but most of them are also ungoogleable. don't know what the artists have been doing.

for a feel of things, i give you this!

"Dice" by Akayama Hitoshi.
